The Poetry Friday Anthology

Posted August 17th, 2012 by Susan Taylor Brown and filed in Poetry

First my confession. It’s been a long time goal of mine to be in a poetry anthology. And now, at last, I am! I have a poem in The Poetry Friday Anthology.

This beautiful book is the brainchild of poetry champions Sylvia Vardell and Janet Wong with a nod to Kelly Herold who started the internet sensation of Poetry Friday years ago.

Teachers who want to bring more poetry into the class AND tie it to the curriculum standards will love this book.

From the announcement flyer:

“The Poetry Friday Anthology brings the Poetry Friday concept into the classroom or library and makes it easy to take five minutes every Friday (or any day) to share a poem.

Explore a poem, connect it with children’s lives and capitalize on a teachable moment. Pausing to share a poem – and reinforce a language skill – on Poetry Friday is a simple and effective way to infuse poetry into your own current teaching practice or routine.

This anthology is available in both print and e versions. Go to amazon.com and type “Poetry Friday Anthology” into the search box and check it out!

Congratulations on having your poem “When the Rain Falls” included in THE POETRY FRIDAY ANTHOLOGY. Well done. Kids will love the alliteration. So much fun. Keep up the great work.
I’m pleased to know that a middle grade anthology is in the works. More fun for kids.

  3. Susan, I’m so honored to have work in an anthology with yours! Your rain poem is lovely. What a treasure for teachers this book will be. (And I’m delighted to read of a middle school project in the works!)

  4. Congratulations, Susan! Shared your Poetry Friday Anthology post on my Facebook wall. xoxo

  5. FANTASTIC! I’ll buy a copy for sure! Thanks! xo

  6. Thanks for the shout-out, Susan. We are so proud of this book and the wonderful poets who are showcased here– like you! Now it’s time for the “full court press” to get those poems out to the kids themselves! Thanks for all your support here.

Susan: Thank you for this lovely post and for your outstanding poem “When the Rain Falls.” I think it is the best example of alliteration that I’ve ever seen.

Kathleen: a middle school version IS in the works (Susan was right). We don’t know when it will be finished–probably next spring. We’ll ask Susan to post something here when it is ready. (Susan, we hope you’ll send us some poems for it–more info to come in a couple of weeks.)
