SOCIAL
NETWORKING FOR WRITERS
Introduction to online social media for
authors
An
online class taught by Susan Taylor Brown.
- Do
you have the Twitter Jitters? Blog-phobia? Facebook freak-out?
- Not sure why Facebook would
be good for you?
- Want
to increase your web presence but unsure what to do next?
- Reluctant
to join Social Media party but feel like you should?
- Ready
to start blogging but not sure how to begin?
Then this INTENSIVE
5-day
introductory
class to
Online Social Media is for you.
We'll
cover an overview of many
of the current online social media platforms such as Blogs, Facebook,
Myspace,
Twitter, LinkedIn, JacketFlap, (and more) and how
authors are
using them. You’ll learn why “friend” has become a verb, how to “tweet”
for
research experts, and what you can do about managing your time with all
this
new online activity. You will set up new social media platforms and
learn how
to enrich the ones you do have.
Here's how the class will work:
This class will be
conducted via Yahoo Groups.
This class does not have regular meeting
times. You can do the lessons early in the morning before you go to
work, mid-day, or in the evenings after the kids are in bed.
Every
morning, Monday through Thursday, I will post a new private lesson that
you will read at whatever
time is convenient for you. The lesson will include online resources
and a homework assignment. After you read the material, you will post
comments, questions, and
interact with the other students. I will review your current online
presences and you will have the opportunity to review what others are
doing as well.
All class materials are confidential. When
I post materials for the class they are for your information and use.
Feel free to print them out or save them as a reference. They are not
to be forwarded to other people or photocopied, emailed, or
shared in any form with other people.

"I've
been watching various social networking media from the sidelines for

that first leap. I'm now safely swimming on Twitter, Facebook, and
LiveJournal. It was really great to have a pleasant and knowledgable
hand to hold when I jumped." Louise Henriksen

Susan addresses the individual needs of each of her students, this
class is well worth the tuition." Shirley Klock

Taylor Brown does a fantastic job of making participants feel at ease
and provides helpful, timely feedback." Deborah Wilkinson
"In
four days, Susan coached me from pure confusion and fighting the whole
concept of going online to reevaluating my goals and setting up a
LinkedIn account and a blog. This class gives back as much as you put
in and is a great introduction to the opportunities of social
networking." Connie
"Susan
Taylor Brown is able to take a complex topic and break it down in
pieces. She is a very patient teacher and knows the nuts and bolts to
help you begin your journey into the world of internet social
networking." Jenny Bailey
